Coming in about two weeks….THE MOVEMENT 3: Bay vs LA
This event is the heart and soul of Antoine Troupe and here at First Class, we are beyond proud of how much he continues to bring to the krumping dance community.
The dancers featured in The Movement - some from Southern California, and some from out of state - are reknown names in the dance scene (do a YouTube search for any of them and see for yourself!).
The following day, Bliss Dance Studio in Vacaville will host a workshop and freestyle sessions in conjunction with the showcase.
Now onto the third edition, the Movement Krump Sessions have been sold out on both previous occasions so DON’T sleep on purchasing your presale tickets by calling 707-469-4013.
BUT WAIT!
You can’t just SHOW UP without doing some kind of research, so I’ve taken the liberty of including some vocabulary Wikipedia seems to find important in understanding the krump world:
Vocabulary
- Battle: when competitors face-off in a direct dance competition where the use of arm swings and chest movements known as flares and bucks are extremely common.
- Biter: someone who attends sessions or watches battles only to feed on others’ styles. i.e. plagiarism
- Session: when a group of krump dancers form a circle, or cipher in hip-hop context, and one-by-one go into the middle and freestyle.
- Buck: a level of intensity that a dancer reaches when krumping; this level of intensity is shown in the form of more expressive and creative moves.
- Labbin’: when krump dancers get together to create new moves and/or adapt their style.
- Kill Off: when a krumper performs a move that excites the crowd to the point where the battle is over and the crowd surrounds said krumper; the opponent is “killed off.”
I mean, it’s pretty on spot, right?
